John and Ria van Erp started out building staircases from a shed at the family farm in Taupaki. Back then, John’s philosophy was simple: “To get it right first time, every time.”
Today, Continental Stairs is one of largest providers of stairs in New Zealand, producing over 300 staircases every month, as well as handrails and balustrades from our purpose-built factory in Henderson.
We’re still a family-owned business. And while our premises may have changed and our team may have grown, our commitment to quality remains the same as it was in 1982.

Our team includes experienced stairmakers and joiners who can craft any size or style of staircase you want – from classic Victorian to modern floating.
